A Sweet Treat for your Tuesday: Apple Crisp

sweetnsimpleblogMmmm Apple Crisp!!

We enjoyed this with our Thanksgiving meal this past weekend, YUM!

Apple crisp is the perfect fall dessert! The apples, the cinnamon, the oatmeal/brown sugar crisp on top all makes it the BEST!

I was set on making apple crisp for Thanksgiving dessert, so I did a bit of looking around for a good recipe.

I couldn’t find one that looked all that good and was also simple… with LOT of extra ‘crisp’ part of the apple crisp …so I made up my own recipe using all the basics: butter, brown sugar, oatmeal, flour, cinnamon, and apple.

Apple crisp - sweetnsimpleblogFirst things first, peel and chop up your apples. You can choose any type of apples.

With the chopped apples add in 1/4 cup flour, 1/4 cup brown sugar, and 1/2 tsp cinnamon. Mix until the apples are coated and pour into a greased 9×11 pan.

Next the ‘crisp’. 1 1/2 cup each of brown sugar, flour, and oatmeal, plus 1 tsp of baking powder and 1/2 tsp of cinnamon.

Mix all the dry ingredients together, and cut in 1 cup of cold salted butter, until you get the texture of crumbs.

(I cheated and let my mixer do most of the work, and then broke apart any big pieces with my hands after)

Top with the butter/flour/brown sugar mixture, the ‘crisp’ part of apple crisp.

Bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit, for 1 hour and 15 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and crispy.

Top with ice cream and enjoy! YUM!!
